Deacidification

The process of reducing or neutralizing the acid content of an artwork or artistic object, typically through the application of alkaline agents. Deacidification not only neutralizes existing acids but also deposits an alkaline reserve (buffer) to counteract future acid formation and slow long-term deterioration. Learn more here.
