In the case of paintings conservation, Consolidation is the treatment that aims to stabilize degraded or weakened areas by introducing and adhesive, also called a consolidant, capable of holding them together.

In conservation there are hundreds of minutes dedicated to cleaning dust and grime accumulated on the back of an artwork, removing old repairs, adhesives, and overpaints, measuring chemical parameters, making and testing adhesives and varnishes, and several other endless tasks that are essential for proper treatment but pass behind the scenes, invisible to the eye of the general public.

Agarose Gels at work
Agarose is definitely one more gadget to include in our current practice as conservators. It is easy to handle, gives us a lot of control over the treatment and it can be really helpful with both overall and spot treatments.
